Hebrews 11:8 – “By faith, Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.”
Has God ever put a big dream in your heart and you had no idea how that dream would become reality? Oftentimes it’s so easy to become overwhelmed by the big picture that we fail to take that first step. This verse in Hebrews should be a constant reminder that it’s ok to not know exactly where we’re going or how we’ll get there.
You don’t need to know where you’re going if you know God is leading. I remember a time in my life when I believed the Lord was leading me to move my family to Charlotte, NC. We were living in New Jersey at the time, not far from where my wife and I grew up. Family, friends, church, job – our life as we knew it was all right there; yet deep in my heart I believed the Lord had something more for us, something greater if I would only trust Him. I had no earthly idea how this would all come together, I just remember making the decision that I would follow God and trust He would work out the details.
In faith, I took a step of faith by interviewing for a job in Charlotte. God immediately worked on my behalf as I was hired for that job and found a new home for my family within a few days of looking. As I continued to step out in faith and take action, God continued to open doors and before long we were on our way to Charlotte. I can honestly say the freedom and fulfillment my family and I live in today is because the first step was taken nearly 18 years ago. Very rarely will you EVER experience what’s behind the door until you WALK THROUGH IT. You must take action in your life- whether it’s applying for a job, starting a new business, or pursuing a relationship. The God I know is not the type to just magically drop something in your lap if you haven’t worked for it. God won’t steer a ship that isn’t moving – you’ve got to pull away from the dock, set your sails and head out to the deep water. He’s waiting for you!!
