All creation, salvation, and truth come from one source: the Word of God. As John 1:1-5 tells us, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him, nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.’
This powerful passage reminds us that everything—absolutely all things—were created by the Word of God, who is Jesus, His Son. All things exist because He spoke them into being. Not only was the Word (Jesus) present at the very beginning, but nothing would exist without Him. This includes all of creation, including mankind, which was brought into existence by His word.
Without the Word, nothing would exist—nothing! All power resides in the Word (Jesus). The unity of God the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit is hard for men to fully grasp. Yet, from the very beginning, the three existed together and are inseparable. The Triune God—God the Father, Jesus the Word, and the Holy Spirit—work together for the well-being of all mankind. The Word became flesh (John 1:14) to save us from our sins. Jesus (the Word) came with the full grace of the Father to redeem us. Not only did He speak mankind into existence through His Word, but He also took on flesh to rescue us.
Power, grace, and truth exist in the Word (Jesus). Why is this so important for us as men? Without His Word working within us and through us, we are powerless. Nothing happens without God working on our behalf. So, how do we get His Word working for us? We align ourselves with the will of God by learning and following His Word, which is the very power of God. It may seem like a mystery, but it’s not. Jesus, God’s Son, has been at the right hand of the Father since the beginning.
Imagine Jesus having a relationship with God where He has access to everything. Now, Jesus offers us that same access to the very words of God, which are a reflection of Himself. Accessing His Word empowers us with the same strength, protection, guidance, and truth that Jesus has while sitting at the right hand of the Father. The Word tells us that when we see Jesus, we see God.
When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we become children of God. By leaning into the Word, learning, and abiding in God’s truth, we build our lives on a firm foundation, free from the instability of shifting sands.
Matthew 7:24-27 declares, ‘Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.’
We must understand that ‘with God nothing is ever impossible, and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment’ (Luke 1:37). Nothing! One example of God’s power is when we witness lightning and hear thunder—He spoke it into existence! When we see rain or droughts, He speaks. When a baby is born, He speaks it into being! When we sit down to read the Bible and pray, we open ourselves to the Father’s power and will, just as Jesus did. When we, as men, begin operating in this space, trusting Him through His Word, we will finally reach the resting place the Bible speaks of: ‘There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from His. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.’ (Hebrews 4:9-11)
As you go throughout your day, look intently at the handiwork of God in His creation for there He speaks. Listen for His voice as you read His Word and rest in the sanctuary of His goodness and grace!
