Our History

In 2002, a businessman from Charlotte, North Carolina, invited three men to his house for a cup of coffee and a raw discussion about life. With busyness working like vice grips to keep men isolated, Stephen L. Thomas committed to spending time each week with these men. One Saturday turned into a regular rhythm of meeting. Organic growth ensued, and that modest group of young businessmen produced an army of men meeting weekly for fellowship, accountability, and discussion. As this group multiplied over the following years, it became increasingly difficult to facilitate new groups and maintain the simplistic DNA of the original group. Efforts to scale to other neighborhoods and areas eventually lost momentum, but despite its challenges, Steve and a remnant of faithful men prioritized gathering on a regular basis with the simple aim of meeting men where they are in life.
On November 5, 2017, Steve and his friend Doug Benefield were exchanging texts about the simple elements necessary for a dynamic men's environment—food, fire, fellowship, and God's Word. This dream soon became a reality. A Red Truck was purchased, and Red Truck Men officially launched in 2021.

Authentic friendship, consistent fellowship, and a commitment to God's Word are believed to be essential for every man's well-being. It's to that end that Red Truck Men was formed—to meet men where they are and to pull together men from all walks of life. From a young boy to a grown man, one of the things that seems to unify all men is a common love for big red trucks.
When you hear a siren and watch a fire engine rush to a burning building, it elicits a feeling of respect and honor. The men on board that Red Truck are heroes—selfless men whose profession is dedicated to responding to crisis and promoting a message of hope. In that spirit, Red Truck Men desires to unite a band of brothers who build significant bonds of friendship as they serve their God, family, and community with honor and humility.
