One of the main reasons we as men fail to tell others about God is we are waiting for perfection! While we believe in what God did for us by sending His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, we fall short of telling others who are in the same need we once were! As we know, no one wants to spend eternity in HELL! So why do we fall short? Because we are waiting for our own maturity and perfection. Simply, we believe that we’re not equipped. Our illusions of being ill-equipped are from Satan! If a man waits for his own perfection, many people will end up spending eternity in misery.
So, what is a disciple? First, while they can be, a disciple is not a Bible scholar. The disciples were regular men. Fishermen, carpenters, and even tax collectors! Jesus was even a carpenter! The Lord isn’t calling us to get saved and then go to Bible college! He says come to Me, and I’ll equip you to go out and tell others.
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Mathew 28:18
We aren’t the Power. We are a vessel to be used to point to the Power. By faith, we have been united to the King, His authority, and His power (“For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.” Roman’s 6:5). A disciple is to serve, witness, and point! Jesus served and pointed to God! Like Him, we are to serve and point to Him! Jesus never asks us to do anything He didn’t already do! He came to serve, not to be served. As a King, the Lord could have walked into a room and said, “Wash My feet!” Instead, He came to wash our feet (“No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.” John 13:8). So, first, we serve. Second, we witness! I was in need of a Savior. My sins separated me from God! But because of what Jesus did on the cross, I now know 100% that I have been saved! My salvation (Jesus) was a gift from God.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
I needed a Savior to cover my sins, and so do others. We are ALL born into sin! So, what should we do? Just bear witness to what He did for us. Again, Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” John 20:21. Simply, Jesus came to reveal God and to save sinners. We don’t need to wait to learn all the books in the Bible, which is good; what we need to do is just tell our story! Lastly, remember that we are just like pointers, similar to a hunting dog pointing to quail! Our lives are meant to point to who God is! Everything good comes from Him. If He has been good to us, He will also be good to the people He places in front of us!
If someone is drowning, you don’t just stand at the end of the pool––you throw them a life jacket! Jesus is the Life Jacket! All I need to do is point to Him. It’s not by our power that people get saved. It’s through His Power that’s in us. (“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…” Ephesians 3:20). I believe the less skilled the better. Because this proves that in His power, He can use us, unskilled laborers.
Discipleship begins and ends with what Jesus has done for us! Discipleship starts at the moment of salvation!
